adidas x Jaemy Choong - Art Rug + Wall Display

Title: Adidas Flagship Store Art Display

It was an absolute privilege to be able to collaborate with adidas to create 2 massive art pieces for their new flagship store in Kuala Lumpur. The art works had to contain local-culture influences, tie back the adidas Originals brand, as well as something vibrant and strong that would catch any potential-shopper's eye from afar.

CASHDESK TREFOIL WALL CENTERPIECE

Adidas made the perfect decision to display this at the cash desk area so everyone potentially queuing up could have a moment to really take the visuals in (cause i put a bunch of localised "easter eggs" hidden around in the art lol) when they are awaiting their turn at the cashier.

Early Concepts + Sketches

This calligraphy of the word "ADIDAS" plays to my experimental technique of merging traditional oriental brush calligraphy, with modern day roman alphabetical structures. Seeing people take time to "read" the word and then "get it" after a moment, was magical to me as an artist.

LOCAL-INSPIRED LOUNGE RUG

As the prominent space where customers would be trying on their hero products (shoes, shoes, shoes), this art piece was crafted to fully immerse them into the art. They would be drawn into a journey where if you look carefully you'll discover local elements and calligraphy that have been given a modern spin. They would uncover batik motifs that "morph/grow" into fashionable adidas wear, discover familiar street signs around Kuala Lumpur that are carefully aligned along the frame of the design, as well as 2 "Wau Bulan" with elements that flow out from them like they are alive.

An influencer's mum at the launching event pulled me aside to give me the thumbs up on the carpet quality.

I asked her how she knew it was a good quality carpet.

"I flipped it over to check the stitching technique." was her answer.
